In the majority of damp buildings, most clients believe they have a rising damp issue. The Damp Detective thinks otherwise. We believe rising damp is not common but commonly misdiagnosed. Correct diagnosis is key to fixing the damp issue.
Condensation is a very common damp in buildings, sometimes confused with rising damp. Condensation can lead to mould outbreaks and can have health implications on the occupant of the property. This type of damp is not easily rectified and requires expert advice.
Falling damp is a very common damp in buildings and can be found in the majority of inspections. Clients often confuse this issue with rising damp. Fixing the issue sometimes only requires the gutters to be cleaned. Regular cleaning and inspections of the stormwater to the building can prevent more serious issues.
Penetrating damp is similar to falling damp and tends to be more noticeable on a weathered walls or where there are defective downpipes. Weathered walls can sometimes be hard to improve unless the correct materials are utilised.
This type of damp is more common than rising damp but can look very similar. Rising damp treatment will fail with this type of damp. Lateral issues are common on sloping sites. Rising damp is more common on flat sites. Ideally the issue is improved from the external part of the building, removing high ground level is key.
